about
notFonts is a website that combines the idea of Pinterest (users, images, and searching), websites like Google Fonts, and AI detection.
Design students have trouble picking the right fonts to use. There's not a place that let's them see fonts in action and know where they could possibly download that font from. This is where notFonts comes it. It provides access to real life examples of fonts in use and where to find the fonts from. And if you can't find it, then you can head over to the AI detection where it'll do it's best to figure out what font that is!
brief
"Create anything that has an interaction, a strong concept, an audience in mind, and testing with any materials that are available to you. Doesn't have to include what you've learned in your classes."
There was a deadline, however, with 2.5 weeks from start to finish.
what should I make?
With an open prompt like this, it's usually hard to choose what to do, but I knew I wanted to solve some sort of problem, something that I run into in my every day life. A few weeks ago, for my ITD 102 Sketching class, I needed to “Create an Experience,” which just walks you through a product, digital or physical. I decided to create an experience for a website design that I've really been wanting to make: a website that combines AI font detection, Pinterest, and a conglomeration of fonts available for download.
A user journey map of a potential website
Another idea that I had was a student discounts app that would show student discounts for anything and everything, similar to Cove (a students activities and events app). However there are two main issues:
- incredibly difficult to track and determine if a discount or coupon is real or fake
- if I wanted to code this, it would be more difficult to code in React Native (for mobile apps) and it would be for Next.js (for websites)
